According to new research by Compete.com (based on the last quarter of 2011), the top listing for organic typically gets 53% of the clicks for a given search. The drop-off between being #1 and #2 is significant in that that percentage of clicks decreases from 53% to 15%. Compete analysts advise: “Since the vast majority of listings on a SERP are organic, and the majority of clicks are on the first listing, it’s imperative that brands strategy including constantly monitoring results due to the ongoing evolution of search engine algorithms.” That doesn’t mean keyword stuffing is the proper tactic, but if you believe you are a “single hot rich guy” then run with it!
