Imagine it’s 1995. Sandra Bullock is making audiences fear the internet in The Net, TLC was warning us not to chase Waterfalls, and a portion of us were using AltaVista to search for information. AltaVista launched in 1995, and it wasn’t until 2001 that Google began serving more searches than AltaVista. Yahoo announced that on July 8th AltaVista will cease to exist and recommended users use Yahoo for their searches. It will join the ranks of websites that have seen better days such as Excite and Friendster. This 4th of July remember the men and women who fought for our freedom and remember one of the original search engines. Cheers!
